This bowl is turned from bog oak – oak that has been preserved in wet soil for hundreds or thousands of years. The long period underground has naturally darkened the wood and given it deep dark brown hues.
The bowl has a strikingly asymmetrical rim with great variation in height. During the turning process, cracks opened in the wood and smaller pieces fell off. The shape therefore follows the material's own movements, creating a raw, organic expression.
The surface has been sanded and oiled, so the wood's structure and luster are clearly visible.
The bowl is primarily a sculptural object, but can also be used for serving dry foods.
