Maintenance of Wood Products
To ensure that your wood products last for many years, it is important to take good care of them. Follow our advice on how to best care for your wood products.
Cleaning
Dust regularly with a soft cloth to prevent the accumulation of dirt and dust particles. Avoid coarse or rough materials, as they can scratch the surface.
Wipe spills or stains immediately with a clean, damp cloth to prevent them from penetrating the wood. If necessary, use a mild soap and gently wipe with a clean, dry cloth afterwards. Avoid aggressive cleaning agents, as they can damage the wood.
Please note that some foods, such as berries, can leave marks on the wood.
Avoid moisture and extreme temperatures
Wood products react to moisture and temperature changes. Keep them away from extreme heat or cold and avoid direct sunlight. Also, ensure they are not exposed to high humidity, as this can cause the wood to expand or contract.
Do not put your wood products in the dishwasher. The dishwasher exposes the wood to extreme heat and moisture, which can cause deformation and damage to the wood's surface and structure.
Protection against heat and moisture
Use coasters or mats under hot beverages, flower vases, and other items that can leave moist stains or heat marks on the wood surface.
Polishing and waxing
Periodically, you can polish wood products with wood butter or wax. If the products come into contact with food, make sure to use one that is approved for food contact. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for correct application.
Wood butter gives the wood a beautiful shine and protects the wood's surface. It is best suited for products that are not exposed to repeated wear or constant moisture. When exposed to water, it is better protected by using wood oil.
Oil treatment
Products treated with oil benefit from periodic oil treatment. If the surface starts to look dry and worn, or if the wood begins to absorb water instead of repelling it, it is time to re-treat the product with oil.
For products that have direct contact with food, it is important to use an oil that is approved for food contact. Remember to follow the manufacturer's instructions on the oil's packaging, as different products may have different guidelines for application and maintenance.
By following these general guidelines and taking into account the type and use of the wood, you can preserve the appearance and lifespan of your wood products for many years.
