#MO4 Dish in bog oak

#MO4 Dish in bog oak

Quantity

This bowl is turned from bog oak – oak that has been preserved in wet soil for hundreds or thousands of years. The long time underground has naturally darkened the wood and given it its deep dark brown hues.

The piece still bears clear traces of its original form. The exterior has only been gently processed to preserve the wood's raw edges and structure, while the soft indentation has been turned into the center.

The contrast between the raw and the processed gives an impression of something that is both found and shaped. Like a preserved part of the tree that has been given a new function.

The surface is sanded and oiled, so the wood's structure and glow are clearly visible.

The bowl is primarily a sculptural object but can also be used for serving dry foods.
