This bowl is turned from bog oak – oak that has been preserved in wet soil for hundreds or thousands of years. The long time underground has naturally darkened the wood and given it deep black hues.
The piece still clearly shows traces of its original form. Cracks run through the wood, revealing the tensions and changes the material has undergone.
The exterior has only been gently worked, preserving the raw edges and structure of the wood, while a soft indentation has been turned in the center. The contrast between the raw and the refined creates a sense of something both found and shaped.
The surface has been sanded and oiled, making the wood's structure and glow clearly visible.
The bowl is primarily a sculptural object but can also be used for storing small items such as jewelry or keys.
