This bowl is turned from bog oak – oak wood that has been preserved in wet soil for hundreds or thousands of years. The long time underground has naturally darkened the wood and given it deep dark brown hues.
During processing, the wood opened along a natural crack. The bowl has therefore been reassembled with an inlaid oak butterfly, which stabilises the material and simultaneously becomes a visible part of the aesthetic. The contrast between the dark bog oak and the lighter oak highlights the repair as a deliberate aesthetic element.
The surface is sanded and oiled, so that the wood's structure and lustre are clearly visible.
The bowl is primarily a sculptural object, but can also be used for serving dry foods.
Measurements:
- Height: 4 cm
- Diameter: 17 cm
Treatment:
The bowl has been oiled to nourish and protect the wood's surface. The bowl can be re-oiled as needed. See more about wood product maintenance.
