This platter is turned from bog oak – oak that has been preserved in wet soil for hundreds or thousands of years. The long time underground has naturally darkened the wood and given it its deep dark brown hues.
The piece still bears clear traces of its original form. Cracks run through the wood, showing the tensions and changes the material has undergone.
The exterior is only gently worked, preserving the wood's raw edges and structure, while the soft indentation is turned in the center. The contrast between the raw and the crafted gives an experience of something that is both found and shaped.
The surface is sanded and oiled, making the wood's structure and glow clearly visible.
The platter is primarily a sculptural object, but can also be used for storing small items such as jewelry or keys.
