The vase is turned from ash wood. During turning, the tool hit the edge, causing a piece of the vase to break off, and the vase fell to the floor. Instead of discarding it, work continued, and the broken piece was subsequently reattached.
Inspired by the Japanese technique of kintsugi, the repair is highlighted with brass rather than attempting to hide it. The accident has thus become a visible part of the vase's history and expression.
The vase stands as a sculptural object in itself.
